Scout, Sailor, Traveller

Jerzy Jeliński belonged to a generation for whom Poland’s restoration of independence opened up entirely new possibilities. He was a scout, sailor and traveller, but above all, a man curious about the world.

His journey around the world was an extraordinary undertaking for its time. Travelling by car meant facing roads that often bore little resemblance to those we know today, mechanical problems and enormous distances. A workshop, spare parts or even a suitable road could not always be counted on.

Nevertheless, Jeliński set off on his journey. His route took him through successive countries and continents, while the car became not only a means of transport but also an essential part of the story.

It was this expedition that inspired the two models we created to celebrate Sterkowski’s centenary.

Timeless Classic

The Shelby is a classic eight-panel newsboy cap with a full, rounded silhouette. Eight individually cut fabric panels meet at the centre beneath a distinctive button, giving the cap its volume and relaxed shape. The crown falls softly over a short, structured visor, creating the iconic silhouette of this style.

It is one of those designs that fits effortlessly into different wardrobes. In the right fabric, it can complement a suit or a more formal outfit, but it looks equally good with a jacket, sweater or simple T-shirt. More than a century of history has made the Shelby a style that no longer needs to choose between elegance and everyday wear.

A Story Hidden Inside

The story of Tin Lizzie does not end with the outside of the cap. We have hidden another part of it inside.

The printed lining refers to the first stage of Jerzy Jeliński’s expedition, which began in 1926. It is a detail revealed only when the cap is removed, making the story of the journey an integral part of the design.

The underside of the visor also features a unique finish created specifically for this version. In this way, Tin Lizzie differs from the second model in the anniversary series not only in the colour of its wool but also in the details that tell another chapter of the same journey.

Abraham Moon

For Tin Lizzie, we selected densely woven Abraham Moon wool in khaki, featuring a classic herringbone pattern. It is a fabric that perfectly reflects the character of a design combining history with traditional craftsmanship.

Abraham Moon is one of Britain’s most renowned woollen fabric manufacturers. The company’s history dates back to 1837, and for generations its woollen fabrics have been used in classic clothing and tailoring.

Tin Lizzie

The first car used during Jerzy Jeliński’s expedition was the Ford Model T, one of the most recognisable automobiles of the early 20th century. Popularly known as Tin Lizzie, it gave its name to our first limited-edition model.

The Ford accompanied the travellers during the first stage of their expedition, which took them through Europe and Africa. Together, they crossed borders, travelled along roads of widely varying quality and made the car one of the central characters of the entire adventure.

That is why the car also appears on the pin attached to the cap. It is a small detail that directly connects the Shelby Scout to the first chapter of a journey that began one hundred years ago.

1926

We return to the year our family workshop was founded. We look for people, places and events whose stories also began in that very year.

We rediscover these stories and reinterpret them through the craftsmanship we have practised for four generations. Each story becomes the inspiration for a unique piece of headwear, where the style, material, colour and details tell another chapter.

All these designs share one date. Together, they form the 1926 Collection, our centenary tribute to extraordinary stories from one hundred years ago.

One Hundred Years of Passion and Craftsmanship

In 1926, Anna Sterkowska opened her workshop in Warsaw. She could not have known that four generations later, her great-grandchildren would be making caps for people all over the world.

But she was certain of one thing. A good cap begins with excellent materials and craftsmanship.

For one hundred years, this philosophy has remained unchanged. Every cap that leaves our workshop is the result of knowledge and experience passed down from generation to generation. We are proud to continue this tradition every day, creating caps and hats for you that reach customers all over the world.
