They called it the Paddy cap

Alex is a classic flat cap - worn and loved across the British Isles for generations. It's also the style that sailed from Ireland to America in the 19th century on the heads of Irish immigrants looking for a better tomorrow. On the streets of New York, it became so recognizable that Americans called it the "Paddy cap" - after the name they used for the Irish. Alex is all clean lines, balanced proportions, and a low, elegant profile. A flat cap with a rich backstory, made from fabric by Magee - a mill that's been weaving Donegal Tweed since 1866. No wonder a cap like this had to be part of the Sterkowski 100th Anniversary collection.

Donegal Tweed by Magee 1866

A fabric with a history reaching back to 1866, when John Magee began trading handwoven textiles at the markets of County Donegal in Ireland. For five generations, the family-owned mill in Donegal Town has been weaving wool recognized the world over for its signature colorful flecks - nepps - woven into the fabric. They're what sets real Donegal Tweed apart from every other tweed. The wool is naturally warm, breathable, and temperature-regulating. It's also exceptionally durable and comfortable to wear.

Craftsmanship. A hundred years of commitment

At Sterkowski, we sew by one principle: craftsmanship is a way of thinking. And it has been for 100 years. Every hat is the result of precision, knowledge, patience, and respect for tradition. We still work by hand, but we stay open to new ideas - and we think boldly about form, function, and how a cap should look and wear years from now. For us, craftsmanship is a conversation between the past and what lies ahead.
