The Man Responsible for the Ship

The name of this style takes us directly onto the deck. A skipper was the person responsible for the vessel, its crew, and its safe navigation. On smaller merchant, fishing, and sailing vessels, his role often corresponded to that of a captain.

The cap was a natural part of the clothing worn by people in this profession. Its form had to suit the conditions on the water, but over time it also began to reflect the position of the person wearing it. The distinctive crown, visor, band, and decorative elements created a silhouette that we still associate with captains and skippers today.

Our Skipper Cap draws directly from this tradition. Compared with simpler work caps, it is more decorative and distinguished. The embroidered trim and decorative cord emphasize its character while preserving the classic form of a cap worn by people of the sea.

From the Deck to Everyday Life

Over time, the Skipper Cap moved beyond the world of professional sailing. The distinctive caps worn by captains and skippers began to appear beyond ship decks, becoming one of the most recognizable elements of nautical style.

Their purpose changed, but the distinctive silhouette remained. The pronounced band, small visor, and decorative finishing still evoke associations with the deck, the port, and the people responsible for commanding vessels.

We made the Skipper Cap from natural wool, a material that has been used for generations in the production of headwear. Its properties are perfectly suited to the character of this classic style, while providing comfort, durability, and suitable protection from the cold.

Wool has natural thermoregulating properties. It helps maintain thermal comfort while allowing the skin to breathe and managing moisture effectively. This makes the Skipper Cap particularly well suited to colder autumn and winter days.

One Hundred Years of Passion and Craftsmanship

In 1926, Anna Sterkowska opened her workshop in Warsaw. She could not have known that four generations later, her great-grandchildren would be making caps for people all over the world.

She knew one thing: a good cap requires excellent materials and craftsmanship.

For one hundred years, nothing has changed in this philosophy. Every cap that leaves our workshop is the result of knowledge passed down from generation to generation. We are proud to continue creating new caps and hats for you every day.
