Cashmere knit caps are original, extremely interesting pieces of clothing. They are new in our offer and definitely worth paying attention to. What is cashmere and how is it made? How do you take care of a cashmere knit cap? You will find the answer to all these questions in our article.

What is cashmere?

Cashmere is a very soft fabric made of the wool of Cashmere goats. These goats are bred in Asia, usually in the Himalayan region. It’s one of the most expensive raw materials in the world, mainly due to the fact that it is obtained in an extremely time-consuming process. Cashmere is distinguished by its very fine fibres, which are no thicker than 16-18 micrometres. What does this value mean? It means that a cashmere knit cap or other product made of this unusual material will be characterised by exceptional fluffiness, as well as a natural shine. In addition, cashmere products are very pleasant to the touch. How is cashmere obtained? The Himalayas are a very demanding region and Cashmere goats have adapted to it – their coat consists of three parts: outer hair, inner hair and down. It is the down that forms the basis for cashmere fabrics.

Cashmere knit cap – lots of advantages

Producing cashmere is not an easy task, but the raw material obtained and the products made of it have a number of advantages. A cashmere knit cap is incredibly light, soft and extremely warm. Cashmere retains heat several times better than sheep wool and, at the same time, it’s not itchy. In addition, such cashmere knit cap will be hygroscopic, breathable and airy. Moreover, cashmere doesn’t crease, which is why it is very often added in a smaller or larger percentage to other sheep wool products.

Cashmere knit cap – how do I look after it?

As you already know what cashmere is, you’re well aware that a cashmere knit cap needs proper care. If you take good care of it, you will be able to enjoy it for years to come, and it will always be comfortable to wear. The most important thing to consider is the washing. Cashmere is best washed by hand, but of course you can also do it in a washing machine – only with the appropriate programme. Cashmere knit caps shouldn’t be washed at more than 30°C. What is important – don’t use any softeners or rinsing

liquids. Their use may cause the fibres to stick together and even destroy the structure of the fabric. For cashmere you can use gentle detergents, which are also used for washing wool. When you take your cashmere knit cap out of the washing machine or bowl, dry it flat. The soft fibres are very prone to stretching, so if you hang the washing out to dry, cashmere products could lose their fit. Tumble dryers should rather be avoided. It is possible to use a wool drying programme, but it is safest to choose the traditional drying method. Finally, it’s worth mentioning that cashmere is wool, so it can pill. However, this is not a big problem – as with woollen knit caps, you just need to use a lint remover. Also, put some dried lavender or sage in your wardrobe to keep moths out. You already know how to look after a cashmere knit cap, so it’s time to get one from our shop and enjoy this sensational accessory.
