Our New Arrival for the start of the season is undeniably a beautiful design. But ALEX is much more than that. Our headwear designs are inspired by tradition, history, culture and literature. ALEX is a cap created as a tribute to friendship and cooperation in difficult times in Poland.
The family-run Sterkowski manufactory is a company that has been making headwear for four generations. Since its founding in 1926, its history has been intertwined with both easier and harder times for artisanal production. Undoubtedly, one of the most challenging episodes was the period of the second half of the 20th century and the new geopolitical order. It brought a socialist system to the Polish people after World War II. For almost half a century, with varying intensity, the authorities aimed to eliminate private companies and businesses. The centrally planned economy aimed to remove private initiatives and entrepreneurship from the economic landscape of Poland.
It’s well known that hard times build strong characters. In difficult times, the support of loved ones and friendship are equally important. The Sterkowski Factory is a textbook example of this order of things. Zygmunt Sterkowski – the father of our master craftsman Marek Sterkowski was a friend and cooperated with a cap maker from Łódź named Aleksander Milczarski. They exchanged experience and technological knowledge in the field of headwear production. Their professional relationship turned into a friendship.
As a family-owned company, we are proud of this fact, because we believe the story is exceptional. A similar business rarely leads to fruitful cooperation and close relationships. Usually, we are witness to competition and sometimes even unethical battles for customers.
The name ALEX comes from a friend of Zygmunt Sterkowski. This business relationship between Warsaw and Łódz was very professional and productive. The classic and beautiful ALEX flat cap is our memorial of this unique history in the way we do best.
