A few words about marine-style caps

Since ancient times, seafarers have worn caps. Some are designed to protect the head and neck from the scorching sun and overheating, others provide protection from the sweltering cold north wind, others from the crackling cold. Depending on the place and the type of work, sailor caps have taken on different names and styles

The cap of a port worker and a thief

As early as the 18th century, port workers could be recognised by their distinctive headgear – a straight-cut, streamlined cap with a wide cuff that could be folded back to cover the ears and neck when necessary. The docker caps were quickly exploited by gangs of thieves who, by making themselves look like workers, could easily get into the port and steal valuable cargo. Fortunately, their infamy was soon to be forgotten – docker caps have survived to this day and have become an iconic fashion item.

A fashionable marine-style cap

It is worn by young and old, the US military (utility uniform), celebrities and film stars. A small and inconspicuous docker cap in linen or cotton completes a summer sports look, while a knitted cap is a great addition to a long coat. Caps in subdued colours with a

traditional cut are made from top quality materials, have piped seams and a cotton sweatband. The winter version has a warm and breathable lining, some models are also equipped with welts.

Skipper cap

The flat cap with a round bottom was worn by skippers, ship captains and also by Kashubians (members of one of the Polish ethnic groups) living at the seaside. This model of cap is known under different names – Kashubian (larger, stiffened headpiece with high top, decorated with embroidered tape sewn on the brim and visor), traveller’s cap (cut similar to maciejowka), „Lennon’s cap” (inspired by the cap worn by John Lennon), maciejowka (popular in the 19th century among peasants, later an obligatory cap to the uniform of the Polish Legions).

Skipper cap – for whom?

The elegant and comfortable cap can be worn by anyone who appreciates a classic style combined with comfort. Winter women’s skipper cap looks great with a chunky jumper, jeans and a coat, summer women’s skipper cap looks great with a flowy dress and heeled shoes. Men can wear the winter skipper with a chunky jumper, black Ramones leather jacket or a woollen one,

while in summer the cap can be used to complement a T-shirt or a stylish light jacket. Caps made from the best quality light and airy cotton (summer version) and from warm and breathable woollen cloth or natural leather are perfect for everyday and informal outfits. Contemporary fashion knows no limits and willingly draws on the patterns of the past. Very good, because marine-style caps give you the opportunity to create an original styling
